We're still hanging in there. This weekend was fun and relaxing. Got to hang out with Cary and some friends - we all went golfing and I drove the golf cart through every divit I could find :) Fun, fun! Oh, and we went and saw "The Interpreter" with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn. Great movie, but there is one random scene you should close your eyes through - I still don't know what the purpose of that scene was - and no, the afore mentioned characters were not in it. I hate that, by the way, when crude scenes are included in movies for no apparent reason. It was still good though.

Oh, in case you were wondering - I'm officially a humongaloid prego - but I still have an "innie" :) I plan on taking at least one more prego pic before the trip to the hospital - I'll post it here when I do and I'm sure you will all be rightly shocked. :)

Just so I don't start getting panicked calls...

for not posting in a while - I'm still hanging in there. :) I just haven't had a lot of interesting things to say. I'm officially transitioned into my new position at Baylor. I'm really enjoying it so far, but I have so much to learn!! It's definitely kept me occupied.

Cary's gone this week - yep, he's in Kentucky for work until Friday. Oh, and my OB is not in the office, although she can be reached in case of emergency, so really, this would be incredibly bad timing for me to go into labor. Not that I'm worried, I just figure if I say that maybe Carson will listen. Really though, anytime after Friday is fine with me :) I just can't wait to meet this little guy! Anyway, I'm spending my week in preparation mode. Last night, I returned some things that we have received that we didn't need and got the cutest little overall outfit from Kohl's for $10!! It was on sale for 60% off!! Way to go!! Then I went to Target and Toys R Us and got a few more crib sheets and some stuff that we'll need for the hospital bag, which I plan on packing sometime this week. Most people would find this awfully boring, but I loved every minute! Then, I went home and started washing bedding and blankets and Carson's 0-3 month stuff. So fun!! - no really!! If you've ever been an expectant mom, you will understand.

Tonight is girls night!! My friends Debbie and Staci and I are going to grab a bite to eat and have fun. OH! and Staci just found out that she will be induced on the 10th!! Woo-hoo Staci!!! So exciting!! And!! Her toes will be pretty for it because she and I are going to get pedicures on the 4th - something every big prego should do!! :) Silly, I know - I told you I had nothing of interest to say! :)

Oh, quick Texarkana update - The weekend went very well, and we had a lot of fun. We're still praying about it, and I'll let you know if we come to a decision. I must say though that all of our attention has been stolen by this upcoming birth - it makes it hard to prepare for or consider much else.

Also, the weekly "check" update: As of last Friday, I am dilated to a 1 and 60% effaced. Woo-hoo!! Come on Carson!! :) I won't have an update for this week, because as I mentioned earlier, my OB is not in the office, so it will just be a weight and blood pressure visit. Hopefully that means that by next week (39 weeks!!!) I will have made mad progress towards this birth! :) Keep praying for a speedy and easy delivery! :)

Progress!!

I had a doctor appointment today. I'm 36 weeks, so she checked me - I'll leave it at that. Just wanted you to know that I'm not dialated yet, but I am 40% effaced. If you don't know what that is, we'll just say it's progress, and if you want more info, then you can google it. At any rate, I am encouraged. Only 4 more weeks till my due date!!

Also, we are headed back to Texarkana tomorrow morning to visit that church again. Please be praying for Cary and I as we visit and lead worship. Please specifically pray that God speaks clearly to us as to the direction he would like us to take.

Ultrasound

Today we had an ultrasound of Carson because he was measuring small at our appointment last Friday. Turns out, he is just head down and low, which makes him seem smaller from the outside. At any rate, it was so much fun to see him again. We could even see him breathing. At one point, the picture was so clear that we could see his fingernails. Oh, and he has all ten fingers and all ten toes. He was measuring 6 lbs even, give or take 5 oz - that's how much there machines can be off evidently. I also found out that the placenta has prematurely aged somewhat. The tech said it wasn't a concern at this point, but meant that I probably wouldn't be late at all. She figures I'll probably go into labor on or before my due date - yeah!!! :) Here are some pictures of Carson that we got from our ultrasound.

Nesting much??

I hope this isn't habit forming!! Last night, we drove in from Houston and got home at about a quarter to ten. We unloaded the car, and I proceeded to unpack all of the gifts from Carson's shower, find a place for everything, fold all of his new clothes, and completely rearrange his drawers in both dressers. There are 7 drawers! I finally went to bed shortly before midnight. It took me a while to fall asleep, and THEN I woke up at 3:00 a.m.!!!! aaaaagghhhhh!!!! I tossed and turned for an hour or so, tired but unable to get comfortable, and finally got up because I was worried I would wake Cary. So, what did I do? I went into the office, put together the portable swing that we received for Carson, checked my email, looked at some baby websites, and then made a list of the stuff I still have to do in the next month. Good grief!! I finally went back to bed around 5, tossed and turned for another hour, finally fell asleep at 6 or so, and then my alarm went off at 6:30. SO AGGRAVATING!!! Surprisingly, I'm not very tired today. Maybe, just maybe, I'll sleep better tonight.

Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was so much fun!! Cary and I went to Houston for a baby shower that my mother-in-law (DeAnne) and her friend threw for us. It was such an awesome shower!! We had so much fun and were completely overwhelmed with all of the adorable things we received. The shower itself was really fun too! Great food, fun games, and hilarious commentary by Stephanie (Cary's sis) as she orchestrated the games. It was definitely good fun all around and it was so fun to see everybody.

The other absolutely awesome thing that happened is that DeAnne bought a photography package as a gift to us where I got to take maternity pictures this weekend and then after Carson is born, I get to bring him back and get infant pictures taken. She and Steph and Emily (Cary's other sis) picked out an outfit for me to wear and everything. It was so fun and I felt so pampered and special. We get the proofs in about two weeks - and I cannot wait!! SO FUN!! I've also decided that photo sessions are really good for ones self esteem due to the fact that the photographers are so encouraging and you don't have to see how things turn out right away! They make you feel so good about yourself!!

Happy Anniversary!!!

Today is our two year anniversary. How fun!! We celebrated big while we were in San Antonio, so today is a little more low key, but still super fun! :) We have dinner plans with friends tonight, so we met for lunch at McDonalds - fancy I know - but it really was fun. We even exchanged gifts. Cary got me the baby book I've been wanting - I can't wait to start making memories with it - and said that I had to wait for the other part of my present until tonight. How fun!! I love it when holidays are stretched out all day. So fun. Then, when I got back to the office, I had two sets of flowers delivered to me!! Cary had sent me a beautiful arrangement of tulips, and my family had sent Cary and I a potted arrangement that is really nice too. Oooh! I'll post pictures. :)




Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband of 2 years. I am so blessed to have you by my side! You are the best husband, and I know you will be an awesome daddy. I love you babe! With all that I am!!

April Fools!!!

Okay, I was going to call this post "I think I'm in labor," but then I remembered the boy who cried wolf and thought that might not be such a good idea. :) So, anybody have a good April Fools prank? I'd love to hear about it.

It's April, and now when people ask when I'm due, I get to say NEXT MONTH!!!! How cool is that!

Carson's prints for his room arrived, and they are so cute!! Cary and I are going to get them framed this weekend, so then the only thing left for his room will be a rug and maybe a few nic-nacs if I find something I just can't pass up. I'll post updated pictures soon. I've had quite a bit of fun shopping for the little guy lately. In fact, it might be my new favorite hobby. :) Thankfully for Cary, I tend to be a big shopper and not as big of a buyer.

I'm so glad it is Friday! That means the weekend is here!! No big plans for us at this point, but I'm sure we'll come up with something. I love weekends!! I think I will start a petition to make the weeks 2 days and the weekends 5 days - anyone want to sign???

Sorry I've been absent - this is likely to be a huge post!! I've had so much fun with my mom and sister here, and it seems like we've been going non stop. They left Friday morning, so I've spent the last few days resting and recouping. I can hardly believe they will be coming back in 7 or so weeks for Carson's birth! Crazy.

Oh, quick update on the week... the doctor's appointment Tuesday went well, and yes, we all crammed into the little exam room and mom videotaped Carson's heartbeat. It was a fun experience to say the least. Quite amusing. The shower Wednesday was so much fun. We are truly blessed to have so many friends that care so much for us. I almost feel that if Carson came now, we would have the necessary things to take care of him - for the most part. We got plenty of super cute outfits, bath stuff, the stroller and carseat set and the pack'n'play. Oh, and mom spent all of her free time at our house sewing fun things for Carson - receiving blankets, covers for our changing pad and my little rocker, decorative burp cloths, an awesome diaper bag that matches the stroller and carseat, and changing pads to match. So fun! I have the coolest diaper bag ever!! Oh, and we got a glider - did I mention that in a previous post? Well, in case I didn't, we found it at JCPenneys and had a gift card to there as well, so all in all the glider and ottoman cost us $100. It matches the other furniture so well and is comfy to boot! It's finally starting to seem real in a not-so-real sort of way. I mean, what exactly am I supposed to expect with all of this? I told Cary yesterday that although I am truly excited, I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be excited about. Yes, I know, we're having a baby, but I guess what I am trying to say is that, since I have not done this before, I really don't know what it will be like or what exactly I'm supposed to expect. I guess for now, I will revel in the fact that I am going to be a mom for the very first time to a little boy that knows no more than I do... a little boy that God created with Cary and I, especially for us to raise and to lead him back to his creator. I suppose I will revel in all of my dreams and hopes for him, and hope that in the end, he is an independent, strong individual that serves God with all of his heart, can stand on his own two feet, and yet, still desires to spend time with his adoring folks.

We finally have a nursery!!!

Cary went and picked up the nursery furniture yesterday, so last night after dinner our wonderful and very helpful friends, Roy & Debbie, helped us put everything together. Actually, Roy & Cary put it together, and Debbie and I went to ToysRUs and bought the crib mattress and changing pad. What great friends!!

Funny story about the ToysRUs trip: Debbie and I were putting the stuff in the trunk, and I had to let the back seats down so the mattress could come through the trunk into the back of the car. So I got in the front of our 2-door honda accord and reached back for the lever to let the seats down, and my stomach got stuck between the seats - ha ha! I had to literally lift myself up between the seats so that I could reach the lever - really glad no one had to see that!!!

I did help put the last dresser together, so I got to help a little. Then, Cary and I stayed up until almost 1 putting all of the baby stuff we have together and putting the bedding in the crib and such. We still have quite a bit to do, but I definitely feel a little less stressed since we have a place for Carson now! Also, the furniture is beautiful and it's starting to look really cute. Now I just have to figure out what to put on the walls. We were going to paint, but now we're not sure if we are going to or not. I found some cute children's prints of a car and a truck that I might buy and frame for the nursery, and I think that I want to frame some scripture verses. I'm also considering hanging the quilt that came with the bedding behind the crib. We'll see. Anyway, I'll post some pictures soon so you can see our progress. It definitely made this all seem real for us! What, you mean there is a reason my stomach has gotten this big??

In other news, my mom and sister, Kelsey, are coming to visit us this next week. They get here Sunday and I absolutely cannot wait!! I have a doctor's appt Tuesday, so the four of us, Mom, Kelsey, Cary and I, are going to cram into the little room so they can here Carson's heartbeat. Very fun! Monday is our first childbirth class - we are getting so close!! And Wednesday, our friends Debbie (one of the afore mentioned wonderful people), Holly & Kelly (who are equally sweet and wonderful) are throwing us a baby shower. Woo-hoo!!!! What fun things I have to look forward too! Oh, and I almost forgot, I took off work Tuesday through Thursday while they are here this next week, and then I get Friday and Monday off for Easter, so after Monday, I get a whole 8 days off of work!!! Yeah!!!!! I am so so so excited!

Babymoon and Doctor Appointments

We had absolutely so much fun this weekend!!! We got to hang out with some friends Wednesday night. Thursday, we checked into our hotel and did the riverwalk thing and shopped a bit. We saw Million Dollar Baby - which is a great movie - and had dinner at a steakhouse on the riverwalk. I can't remember the name of it. Oh, and when we got back to our room, they had delivered chocolate covered strawberries for us. :) Friday, Cary had to work a bit in the morning, so I slept in and watched TV. Then once we got around, we went to the Spanish Market and had lunch at Mi Tierra's - yum! That night, we got to see Allison Krauss and Union Station in concert and we had tickets in the center of the TENTH ROW!!!! It was such a good concert - one of the best I've been to - and they were so funny! FUN!!! FUN!!! Saturday, we had breakfast in bed, which by the way is one of my very favorite things to do in a hotel, and then Cary had set up an appointment for me to have a facial and a manicure. On top of that, which is already fantastic, when I got to my appointment, he had flowers waiting for me with a super sweet card!! Isn't he just the best, most romantic husband!! :) Oh, and the spa was so cool - just like the ones you see in the movies! You get there, and they bring you to this little room and give you a robe and sandals. Once you are changed, they come and bring you water with lemon, and take you to a relaxation room with dim lighting, magazines and soft music. Then you go for your treatment, which is wonderful!! And after your treatment, they bring you more water with lemon and grapes to snack on. It was definitely pampering at it's best!! :) SOOO NICE!! After that, we went and had lunch with our friends Chris and Erica at Zio's. It was so nice to get to catch up with them. They are the kind of friends that even when you don't see each other for a long time, it's easy to pick up right where you left off. Those are some of the best kind, I think. Oh, and then we went shopping at Baby Gap and got Carson's coming home outfit - since this trip was in his honor. It's this great little grass green polo onesie that has stripes across the chest, khaki cargo shorts and socks to match the shirt. Super cute!!

Well, after our fabulous weekend - and all of that food, which I didn't think twice about enjoying, I had a Dr.'s appointment today. I was a little concerned about the dreaded scale. So, I go in and get all of my vitals taken, get on the scale, and it turns out, I lost a pound - go figure. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a correlation here - when I'm careful about what I eat, I gain - however moderately - and when I eat everything I can get my hands on, I lose - or maybe it was just the walking around San Antonio that kept me in check. At any rate, it was a very nice surprise. The rest of the appointment went well. Carson played hide-and-go-seek from our doctor. She couldn't catch his heartbeat in one place for more than a few seconds. He was just all over the place - kind of fun. Tomorrow, I have to go have a gestational diabetes test - which is normal, so not to worry. I get to go in and drink this orange drink that has tons of sugar on an empty stomach - blech!! Then I get to wait an hour and have my blood drawn. Hope I'm in the mood for sugar!! :)

Babymoon - here I come!!!

I'm so excited!! Cary and I are leaving this evening for San Antonio for our babymoon. I cannot wait!! He's planned this relaxing and romantic weekend for us, and we are staying in La Mansion right on the riverwalk. Yea!!! So, there's the highlight of my week.

In other news, I have an interview today at Baylor, so hopefully it will be interesting and promising. Also, only TEN more weeks!! Woo-hoo!!! I'm so excited to get to meet Carson! Cary on the other hand is suddenly feeling panicked!

Oh, and we interviewed at a church in Texarkana this weekend somewhat reluctantly, and it has turned out to be quite the positive venture, so we're praying about it. More on that later.

Da-Da-Da!!

There is something quite unnerving about stepping on a scale in a doctor's office when you know that you have gained weight. It doesn't seem to help any that I'm supposed to be gaining weight. Maybe I'm the only one that experiences this, but I actually get nervous. Dumb, huh? The funny thing is, I've never been super concerned about my weight - I don't even own a bathroom scale! At least I'm on target and at the lower end of what's considered normal range for seven months of pregnancy. It still makes my blood pressure rise - I'm sure of it.

I'll assume you have guessed by now...had a doctor appointment this morning. All is well with me and Carson. Things are going along smoothly, and we have 11 weeks and 2 days left until our due date. Very excited about that.

The Discovery Health Channel has been playing birthing stories like crazy lately, and I can't get enough. I love them! Yesterday, they had a series called Birth Day Live that they have once a year and it's birthing stories for 8 hours straight - awesome!!! It makes Cary a little squeemish, but I'd even watch them through dinner if he'd let me! :) Did I mention I used to want to be a doctor? It makes me wish all the more that this time would go by quickly.

Can't wait until he's here!!!

Lost my job yesterday :(

My place of business has been making cut backs lately, and yesterday I found out my position was one of them. Basically, my department is being "dissolved" by the end of May, and it's strictly a money issue. This came from the CFO, and I think my VP is taking it harder than I am - she's an awesome lady. They say they are going to try to find another position that will fit my skills within the university, which is slightly comforting. I've been told that a lot of people here think highly of me, which hopefully will help the situation. Really though, their timing just stinks. How do I tell a prospective boss, "Hi, I'm here as your new employee, and you have 8 weeks to teach me what it is I'm supposed to be doing, and then I'll be gone for 6 weeks, at which point, I may or may not decide to return." Doesn't sound very promising. On the other hand, I have to find a position, because our benefits and my maternity leave depend on it, regardless of what we decide to do after Carson is here. I say 8 weeks, because I'm assuming it will take them 2-4 weeks to find a prospective position for me. On top of all of this, I love working for my VP (I'm in her office), and can't imagine working for someone else. I've often said that she is likely the best boss I will ever have. And, yes, we have been considering me staying home after Carson is born - which would be awesome - but it's a little bit painful and uncomfortable to be forced into it. If and when I left, I would have preferred it to be on my terms. All in all, this is just really rotten and miserable, and I'm very sad and stressed about the whole thing.

Please pray for Cary and I as we try and decide what we should do. Also, pray that God will make it very evident which door he wants us to walk through.

Good Grief!!!

27 weeks and I am getting absolutely huge! All belly thankfully, but jeez. I can't see my feet anymore. Only 13 weeks left!!! :)

Clumsy AND stupid

On top of the many times I've proven how pregnancy can make smart women suddenly turn stupid, I've now proven that it makes them clumsy as well.

Last Monday, I slammed my own foot in our front door as I was closing it. This is on top of the numerous dishes I've broken and the mysterious bruises that show up on my body. How did I do this you might ask? No idea. Somehow, I turned to grab the door knob and forgot to move my foot out of the way. At any rate, it quickly swelled to twice the size and turned a nice shade of black. All last week, I limped around watching people aim this pitiful, yet somehow sympathetic look at the poor pregnant woman who must be so uncomfortable, when really, I just had an incredibly sore foot! Quite embarassing. On top of all of that, even though I'm walking somewhat normally, I'm still wearing flip flops during what happens to be the coldest two weeks of the year. So now I'm getting pitiful questions like, "Oh, are your feet swelling already?" To which I point to my toe and say, "No, I'm just very graceful."

It is looking somewhat better now, although I'm sure to lose my big toenail. Last night, however, a doctor friend of ours told me that I may have to go have it removed if it gets any more infected. That means two shots in my big injured toe! Ouch!!! I'm going to try and stick it out as long as possible - No shots for me!!!!

Oh, the joys of pregnancy! :)
